Citrus and Rust
Citrus and Rust
2025

This work explores childhood memory through the relationship between natural and built environments. Growing up in Florida, I draw from familiar materials and sensory experiences—sand, rebar, architectural forms, and the scent of oranges—to reduce memories of place to their most essential elements. The sweet citrus scent evokes the landscape of my childhood, while the sharp, rusted rebar introduces a tension between comfort and confinement. Rather than reconstructing a specific memory, the work considers how place is remembered through fragments of material, structure, and sensation.
